How to Make the Most of Your ASDA Membership

The American Student Dental Association (ASDA) is a national student-run organization that protects and advances the rights of dental students across the country.  There are 66 total ASDA chapters at each dental school, and are grouped into eleven districts. Our district, District 1 consists of the five New England dental schools. Representing Boston University, University of Connecticut, Harvard University, New England University, and Tufts University.

From the local chapters, to our district, to national, there are so many different ways to get involved in ASDA. Take advantage of these opportunities and pursue your passions, no matter where they lie.

 

Advocacy

ASDA’s Council on Advocacy launces grassroots initiatives in support of students and our profession, allowing members to advocate for the interests of our patients and dentistry. Learn about the key issues facing our dental profession, participate in ASDA’s Engage action alert system, and join the American Dental Political Action Committee (ADPAC)

Publications

Is there a topic you feel passionate about? ASDA’s Contour and Mouthing Off keeps members informed on topics that interest dental students. Our editorial board develops and manages the content and format of ASDA publications. If you are interested in publishing a story, photographs, or illustrations contact our editorial team! Don’t forget to meet the students who make up the 2018-2019 Editorial Board.

National Meetings

Attend a national meeting! ASDA holds several meetings throughout the year, providing opportunities to meet dental students across the country.

ASDA Annual Session

ASDA’s Annual Session brings together hundreds of student leaders to participate in the House of Delegates. To vote upon our association’s policy. This is where our chapters are highlighted for their achievements in the Gold Crown Awards Ceremony; election of new national leaders takes place, and the final event being a themed gala.

ADA Dentist and Student Lobby Day

Students along with dentists visit Capitol Hill to advocate on behalf of our patients and ourselves. Attendees receive training on the issues at hand, policies, and learn how to lobby.

National Leadership Conference

Students are able to participate in customized schedules tailored to their personal knowledge, skills, and interests. Providing students with the ability to learn the necessary leadership skills needed to be a successful dentist.
